The Bold & The Beautiful

Now that 2013 is in full swing, we'd like to give our attention to one of the beauty trends that we've been noticing more then ever!

The bold BOLD lip!

They've been featured in magazines, on television commercials and even billboards! Celebrities have been showing off the strong pout and they have also graced the run ways of almost every fashion show! So if you can't beat 'em, join 'em! It's so easy to wear and anyone can pull this particular look off!  Here are a few pictures for you to get a little inspiration from.

No matter what your style is or even your age, the bold lip is in high demand! Before you rush out to buy, there are a few things you should know before wearing this beauty trend yourself.

  • Shimmer: This will provide a shine without drying your lips or teenage looking as frost. The coverage is light but works for most ladies. This is a great formula to get fuller, younger looking lips.
  • Matte: Matte lasts the longest which also makes it the most drying. If the lips are chapped this should not be your go to formula! It's also not the best for mature skin. Matte lipstick works great for darker shades of lipstick only because they won’t smear like other formulas.
  • Cream: Cream lipstick is definitely the most popular! It is much more moisturizing than matte so because of that it works best for most women. This is a great place for those who are lipstick rookies!
  • Long-wearing: If you're looking for formula that is in it for the long haul, long-wearing lipstick is the best way to go. But proceed with caution only because it can be drying and remove with make up remover. Long-wearing lipstick is no joke.
  • Frost: Frost has a metallic-like finish to it. This is perfect for younger girls and it is also good for layering lipstick.

Now that we settled that, next is shade. Often times people aren't sure what color would look best on that. We took the confusion out of that and we matched up skin tones to lipstick colors that we think would look best!

Fair: Light skin tones with cool undertones look flawless with a cool red, like a candy apple red. A bright pink like cotton candy or even a deep purple would look beautiful.

Beige: This skin color with yellow undertones pairs well with a warm red, but can wear a cool red too. Like fair complexions, cotton candy pinky would look fantastic. You can also feel free to try a bright violet color.
Olive: Warm reds look best on this skin color with green undertones, but as you can see, cool reds look pretty too. The coolness of pink and warmth of orange is a great duo on olive skin. It creates a coral color that is to die for. Fuschia is also stunning. You can also go in to uncharted territory with deep reds, plums, and even chocolates.
Dark: Cool reds are wearable but warm reds are gorgeous on this skin tone. Don't be afraid to try anything. The brighter the better! Bright purple looks like a dream on those with darker complexions. But just be cautious of dark shades such as chocolate.

Whatever your complexion, age, or style is, this trend is worth trying! Never let anyone tell you what you can and cannot wear. These are all merely suggestions. Whatever formula or shade you pick, just rock it! Confidence is key with this look! Own it ;)

Bb. Thickening Full Form Mousse
&
Bb. Thickening Creme Contour

* The Bb. Thickening Full Form Mousse is a pillow like mousse that inflates hair whenever heat is added. It helps lift and sculpt the hair while providing a flexible hold as well.
All you have to do is shake the canister well and then dispense into the palm of your hand. Spread through your hair with your fingers. Try not to rub it between your palms too much! Work through your hair from roots to ends and then blow dry!
Easy as pie ;)
It's formulated to have extra density per puff and it contains shaping polymers to provide a strong grip which means it's better for round brush traction when blowing hair dry.
In addition, its' lightweight conditioners help keep hair soft and supple and it also supplies a natural shine and commercial like bounce.
The end result is full, beautiful hair without the crunch.
It's perfect for all hair types and textures especially fine and it's also suitable for those who have color treated locks.

* On to the Bb. Thickening Creme Contour is a fairly dense yet pliable creme that melts in your hands to become a lightweight and delicate paste to create hi-definiton styles.
This fragrant creme contains polymers which is used to hold, carnauba way, and seedcake extract which is added for dimension.
This blended trio formulate a balanced satin-like creme which evolves in to a sheer paste.
Also for all hair types and textures, it is used to add the finishing touches to your style. Just place a small amount into the palms of your hands and smooth through dry hair to define your masterpiece!

BANG it out!

Whoever hasn't seen our First Lady's latest hair style is seriously missing out!
Regardless of your political party, her new 'do is turning heads everywhere!
With that being said, its time to talk about this hot trend that has been on the map for a while and shows no sign of cooling down.

Here, Michelle is rocking her bangs with a cute bob!

Look at the difference a few snips of the shears can do for your style, face shape, and confidence!

This isn't a trend that just happened to spring up and plop itself on the map! There is a history of bangs that we found on a great website documenting it: http://mybestfriendshair.com that shows and explains the different BANGing styles that took place over the decades...

Louise Brooks helped define the 1930's with her sleek fringe and stellar bob!
Audrey Hepburn, Bettie Page, and Connie Francis making their fringe more elegant then show stopping fashion trend.

During the '70's, bangs began being worn in several ways depending.
Disco Diva's played them up in all sorts of ways.

In the '80's the hair was big, and the bangs were no exception!
The higher the hair the closer you were to heaven ;)

The early 2000's were all about the teeny bopper's, frosted tips, and boy bands.
Bangs were still very much involved in the hair trends, but side swept styles took the driver seat to the ever evolving fringe styles.

In the past year, bangs have been a staple in hair trends and are still in high demand.
Side swept, blunt, piece-y, long, short, sleek, or even full, bangs are great for any one!
It's a trend that is here to stay.

Here are a few pictures to show and prove that bangs are a hair trend that is here to stay.
It's up to you on how to rock them! ;)

Talk Dirty To Me ;)

Get your mind out of the gutter!
Us Crimson Ladies are classy...
But when it comes to our hair, the dirtier the better!

There are multiple reasons as to why we love dirty hair but we've narrowed it down to the top 3!

1.) Perfect canvas for Up-do's
2.) When curling your hair, the curls hold so much better
3.) Messy Hair = Sexy Hair

We understand why dirty hair can scare people in to washing it as soon as humanly possible, but we believe that with dirty hair, different styles are more attainable! You have the opportunity to work with your hair and challenge yourself to new hairstyles that you wouldn't normally do with freshly washed hair. When you come in for a hair cut, of course we will have you leaving with a killer blow out, however, you can prolong the life of that blow out and also switch up your look.

When working with dirty hair, yes, it is no secret that hair can be oily, but with that comes our secret weapon!

hairpowder & dryshampoo

Many times it's personal preference, but they both accomplish the same goal, which is to absorb oil and create texture!

1.) Just sprinkle or spray and wait a couple minutes.
2.) You can rub your scalp with the pads of your finger tips
and if you're able to you can brush it.
3.) Style!

Sometimes, because the finish of dry shampoo and hair powder tends to be matte, we like to pair it with another product for some shine and flexibility. For shorter styles, Semi-sumo tends to be a favorite! This product is a light weight pomade that provides a light sheen. For longer styles, Grooming Creme can be worked from the mid shaft to the ends for a smooth finish. A couple products that we like regardless of length are Brilliantine and Hairdresser's Invisible Oil.

(But just remember, a little goes along way!
You can always add extra product.
It's a lot easier to add then to take away.)

Spray some hair powder, tousle with your fingers and tie it up into a messy top knot! Remember, it isn't supposed to be perfect! As one of the most popular sex icons, Marilyn Monroe said, "Imperfection is beauty."

This style is perfect for wavy and curly tresses! After rubbing the scalp with dry shampoo and a head flip or two, there will be some volume at the crown. This is a style where you wouldn't want to brush the dry shampoo through the hair because that would compromise the wave and curl. Secure the side pony tail but allow a few face framing pieces. This simple side pony tail can add a touch of elegance and romanticism to any look!

This is such a simple look that can be created with dry shampoo, a tousle of the head and natural center part. This is bed head at its finest! For the look to the right, the only extra step is to curl random sections and separate with your fingers.

This is classic up-do that is perfect for day or night! Gather your hair in a regular pony tail (the more bumps and fly aways the better)! Twist the pony tail and pin the hair into a bun. For a classic approach, use a thin to medium width head band, but feel free to mix it up with a lace headband to add a feminine touch, or leather or mixed metal head band for an edgier look! You can also adjust the placement of the bun depending on your mood, style, or event.

This is just a collage that we found that featured a  bunch of looks that we are obsessed with! If you have fine hair, dry shampoo and hair powder will definitely help with increased volume and texture but we also advise to use a 1"-11/2 curling iron and wrap pieces in random directions. Separate with your fingers. You can tease the hair at your crown and take the pieces of hair near your temples and roll them away from your face gathering more hair as you go. Pin behind your ears and leave the rest of your hair down OR you can do a braid OR a low messy bun! The opportunities are endless!

This look is a sweet style that is easier to recreate  then you would expect! Section you hair evenly onto two sections. Afters braid each side and secure with an elastic. Feel free to pull on random sections of the braid and mess it up a little. Take the one braid and place it directly on top of your hair and pin. Repeat with the other side and voila!
