Ice, Ice, Baby...

Sound familiar? Besides being the lyrics to Vanilla Ice's most popular song,
the ladies here at Crimson have noticed a similarity to that song and an up and coming hair trend!
Ice Blonde's have been making a statement every where we turn our heads!
They have become more and more popular,
and it's time to take notice.
This hair color trend has been flying under the radar but now, it's taking back its' place in the spotlight.
To the left,
one of our favorite beauty icons,
Marilyn Monroe has been sporting the trend way before our
current beauties (featured below) have jumped on the band wagon.
Gwen Stefani has been veteran to this trend,
and she rocks it just like the rock star she is.
A few other stars that are no stranger to this platinum hue include Michelle Williams, Christina Aguilera, and Ashlee Simpson.

Michelle Williams looks absolutely picturesque with this hair color
and I can't get over how well it compliments her skin tone.
Unlike Michelle who is demure,
Christina Aguilera unleashes her diva style when she sports the icy tone.
Ashlee Simpson has become more of a veteran of the cooler hue which compliments her eye color extremely well.
And for any Miley fans, she is the most recent to jump of the Platinum wagon.
Paired with the edgy hair cut, fearless singer owns the look it perfectly

The icy trend is on fire, how will you rock it?

If I Could Turn Back Time

Aside from being a famous song lyric,
it holds true when it comes to hair care.
Yes, we did advise you to embrace your natural hair texture when it comes to the warmer months,
however, we know that some habits are hard to break.
So with that being said,
now is the time for some major damage control!
From lightening your hair color to using hot tools,
it is time for some TLC.

While the sun may darken our skin,
it lightens our hair.
In most cases,
when our hair gets lightened, whether it be chemically or naturally, it becomes dry.
Since it lacks moisture, its' response is to become frizzy and frazzled.
We suggust using a moisturizing shampoo, conditioner, and a masque.
Bumble & Bumble has a product family called "Quenching."
It's like steroids for any locks that are thristy!
Kevin Murphy carries "Young. Again" which seems to turn back the hands of time.
Like a time machine for the hair,
it un-does the damage your hair might have endured these past months.

Just like it took time for your locks to develop a thirst for moisture,
it will also take some time to quench its' thirst.
Just like the body, hydration starts from the inside out.
The products listed above are our favorites when it comes to reviving your hair's health.

Please, Be My Guest!

Love is definetly in the air this season!
With weddings being planned,
we have been beyond busy helping blushing brides get ready for their big day.
However, being a guest can be stressful in its own right.
For some, doing their own hair and makeup is a chore
and its mostly because they don't know how to do it.
With a few pictures and some guidance,
you'll be turning heads yourself!
We are using a little help from one of our favorite blogs;
The Beauty Department
They have perfect tutorials on how to accomplish styles for any length and texture.
We've uploaded a few that we find important for those trying to accomplish an amazing style for the big day!

We believe that there isn't anything better then a blank canvas!
Often times we suggust clients to have their hair washed the previous day but if you're trying to achieve a perfect blow out,
please shift your eyes to the left and we will include step by step instructions.
1.) After shampooing and conditioning, lightly mist some leave in conditioner throughout your hair, and comb to make sure it is evenly distrubted.
2.) Any stylist will tell you to blow dry your fringe area first! This is an important step because it will help control any cowlicks you have and help you with your parting.
3.) Now use your blow dryer to remove some moisture from the rest of your hair by continuelly moving the blow dry to make sure the hair is evenly damp.
4.) We always tell clients to make sure they have some sort of protectant on their hair before any sort of heat is aimed its way. This can include, Kevin Murphy's Damage Manager Heat Shielding Spray or Bumble and Bumble's Invisible Hairdresser's Oil.
5.) We advise clients to section their hair in three sections (bottom, middle, and top) and take smaller subsections to work on as they blow dry.
6.) Whe blow drying, make a concious effort to keep the nozzle aimed down. This is a huge step since it deminishes any frizz.
7.) When finishing up your perfect blow out, some may experience that annoying "halo" of frizz. With the blow dryer, aim the nozzle down, so that any little hairs can pushed underneath the longer, heavier strands.
8.) Now that the flyways are tamed, go finish getting beautified! After getting dressed, your hair should be completely cooled. If you're interested in a piecy, lived in look, flip your head and let your hair hang. Use your blow dryer to (as the beatuy department says) "stir it up." We use low speed and the cool button to achieve this natural look.

Now that you have your perfect blow out,
you can sport that look alone for a classic style!
Feel free to slip a fancy bobby pin in for some added detail.
Or maybe twist a small section and pin that back?
Regardless, a fabulous blow out is always in style.
If you're looking for an updo,
consider doing  this the day before.
Second day hair is perfect for updo's since it provides more grip and texture.

Let's take a quick break for the straight topic
and lend a hand to those who have curlier hair.
Curls are beautiful and with the summer weather,
we always think it's better to embrace whatever natural texture you have.
Nothing says romantic other then the curly hair
and when styled as a chignon, it is such a feminine look.
Luckily, it can be easily achieved with these steps...

1.) When you finished washing and conditioning your hair,
gently comb out any tangles. Apply mousse (golf-ball size is perfect) from the roots to the ends and comb through once again.
2.) If you're in a time crunch, use a diffuser to speed up the drying process. If not, feel free to let it air dry.
3.) If there are any frizzy pieces or curl lacking strands, simply use a a curling iron (5/8") and just wrap them around.
4.) Once the curls have set, lightly mist with hairspray but nothing too strong or tacky that would jepordize the integrity of the curl.
5.) Next you'll want to seperate the "fringe area" which is shown in the 5th picture to the left. Simply clip it out of the way, since we will be making our way back to it later on.
6.) Now gather your hair as if your going to style it half up, half down. Start directly behind your hairs and pull it up towards the top of the crown.
7.) Simple twist the whole section and pin it in place.
8.) Gather the bottom hair and make a ponytail right below the bone you feel in the back of your head (occiptal bone) and we also suggest that you use a ponytail holder in the same color as your hair in order to disguise it.
9.) Now roll that hair into a messy bun and pin as you go for security.
10.) Remember that "fringe section" of your hair you clipped out of the way? Simply remove it for the cip.
11.) Loosely pull it back, twist and secure with bobby pins.
12.) Once everything is pinned and secured, mist your accomplished up do with light hold hairspray.
13.) I may be a simple girl, but nothing completes this beautiful updo like some glitter and glitz!! A fancy accessory is perfect for added glamour for this updo!

For those with straighter locks or used the blank cavas tutorial,

a swingy pony tail is flirty and fun!
This hairstyle is great for those with medium to longer hair.

1.) Clean hair or second day hair is perfect for this look! Consider parting your hair either to the side or the center depending on what is more fitting for your face shape.
2.) Use a comb or the end of a teasing comb to make a diagonal section starting at your point and going down behind your ears.
3.) & 4.) This is exactly what it should look like. Clip this section out of the way and save it for later.
5.) Tease the crown section of your hair.
6.) Gently smooth that area over with the finer teeth of the comb to prevent it from looking knotty and lightly spray with hair spray.
7.) Pull your hair into a high ponytail. If you happen to flatten out the  "bump" you've intentionally created in step 5, do not worry!
8.) You can use the tail part of the comb to lift it back up!

9.) Now, it's time to take down the front section. Take the one side and drap it over the ponytail elastic.
10.) Use smaller bobby pins to secure the pieces that you wrap around the ponytail holder.
11.) Repeat and do the exact same thing as stated in steps 9 & 10.
12.) Use a curling iron to curl your hair. We agree with TBD to curl each side the same way but it's totally up to you.
13.) After the curls have cooled, gently brush them for a full and bouncy look!
14.) Check the back of your new 'do with a hand mirror to make sure everything looks even and finish with a light mist of hairspray!

Ta Da!
You have a beautiful pony perfect for any type of wedding!

Now for all you shorties out there,
we have not forgotten about you!
Many times, shorter styles feel left out when it comes to updo's
but we have found a pretty style that is easy and chic!
TBD calls this The Quick Twist which calls for short to medium length hair.

1.)  Start off by taking the entire left section, and start twisting away from your face next to your ear. We suggest twisting tightly and going back to loosen it after you pin it in place. Use a large bobby pin and pin the section just past the middle of your head.
2.) For the right section, just repeat step one by gathering all your hair and twisting your hair back, starting at your ear. Place the twisted section over the previous one and again, use a large bobby pin. Tuck any remaining hair into the twist and use smaller bobby pins to secure it in place.
3.) Use a hand mirror to make sure that everything is properly placed and that no random pieces are popping out.
4.) And last but not least, in true Crimson style, place an accesory to either the left or right (depending on your preference) and you are ready to hit the dance floor for the reception!

These are only a few wedding-guest updo's that we think are perfect for anyone!
Feel free to check out TBD's blog for more inspirations!

Bronzed Babe

You may wish to be at the beach somewhere overlooking the beautiful ocean
and soaking up the warmth of the sun.
Feeling the cool breeze roll off of the soothing waves
and enjoying a cocktail while working on your summer glow.
However, if wishes were like horses, beggars would ride.
Although you may not be able to call out of work to try
and achieve a day like the one I just described,
what you can achieve is a flawless tan at home!
With working so many hours,
we totally understand the demands of your career
and how it may be challenging to get beside a pool or ocean,
but with the secrets we are about to spill,
you will be able to get a sexy glow without either one.

A fan favorite is Jergen's Natural Glow Moisturizer!

Not only do they have a lotion for the body
but they have a lotion for your face as well!
It's a non-greasy lotion that is ever so slightly pigminted.
It's perfect tr to get a gradual tan.
They also have formulas with sunscreen
and a lotion that helps with firming.
Need a tan by the end of the week that looks believe able
and personalized?
Jergen's Natural Glow Moistuirzers are the way to go!

If you are in a hurry to become a bronzed goddess overnight,

you might want to consider getting a spray tan.
Because the lotion is more of a gradual process,
getting a spray tan might be the better option for you.
You can either go somewhere that offers sunless tanning
or you can do it yourself in the comfort of your own home.
Our favorite sunless tanner is called, Fake Bake!

Last but not least, for a woman on the go,

sunless tanning wipes are beyond perfect to achieve
and maintain your sexy "beach" tan.
We favor the L'Oreal Sublime Self-Tanning Towelettes!
They provide a lovely glow and the application is easy
and flawless!
However, we suggest that you use it sparlingly around elbows and knees.

No matter what your complexion is,
there is a bronzed goddess inside everyone!
It's time to unleash itself
and these products will help you become tan while staying safe!
Happy tanning ;)

If You Can't Beat 'Em, Join 'Em

Summer weather is finally here!!
We all anticipated its arrival
and with sunny days comes the one thing most of us dislike the most...
humidity!
There are many ways you can fight it,
however, most times it results in a losing battle.
If you can't beat 'em, join 'em
and that is exactly what these hairstyles will help you to do!

Buns & Topknots
This is probably one of Crimson's favorite hairstyle to beat the heat and humidity!
You can wear them up or low, sleek or messy.
They can be worn for casual events and fancy ones as well.
It doesn't discriminate towards hair textures
and anyone can pull it off!
Here are a few pictures to inspire your own style...

Braids
Braids are a classic 'do for the summer heat.
Soft and romantic and not to mention verstile,
braids are a huge hit amongst all the Crimson Ladies!
Side braids are perfect for those who have the length to wear them and
also remember that it is O.K. to leave some strands out to enhance the soft effect.
Headband braids are an up and coming style that is making its way in magazines
and celebrities are sporting them too!

Headbands
For those who get ansy at the thought of hair sticking to their forehead,
headbands are a wonderful option!
They can be plain and sleek which aids in making your apprance simple and classic.
If you enjoy a more romantic, girly look, bejeweled headbands are gorgeous!
They add a sense of femininty to any outfit!
Being placed to keep the fringe area out of the way,
headbands are also being worn across the forehead for more of a bohemien style.

Turbans
Turbans are an effortlessly cool style that most people think they can't achieve,
but they really can.
Just slip it on top of your head and that's it!
Usually covering the ears, it is a perfect way to tame the halo of frizz most people dispise.
They come in a variety of colors, textures, and prints!
Adding spunk to any outfit, it is perfect to wear whether your hair is up or down!

With these simple hair styling ideas,
it will be much easier to enjoy these next few months of summer.
You will be able to spend more time by the pool or beach and less time in front of a mirror,
as you should!

Partying Like It's 1990...

Yes, it's obvious to us that powder fresh pastels and soft curls paired together are the perfect romantic look for spring this year.
However, while they may be taking the front seat
(and currently hogging the spotlight)
please take a moment to notice some 90's trends that are more evident then ever!!
It's true that different trends are constantly being reinvented,
and the 90's are no different!
Here are a couple 90's trends that you will see on the streets
and that you also should try!

MATTE SKIN

The first step to achieving this 90's make up look,
is a flawless matte canvas.
Usually paired with contoured cheeks,
the skin was the perfect back drop for the rest of the make up show.

BOLD LIPS

Rich, vibrant and matte, colors graced the famous lips of all the
models, actresses, and celebrities.
They weren't like the bright, candy colors that are popping up like blooming flowers.
They are earthy colors like deep burgundies or dark, brownish reds.

FIERCE EYE BROWS

With eyes precisely lined, eyes brows were in full effect.
Only cleaning up the strays,
90's women stayed true to their eye brow shape and embraced it.
As far as eye shadow is concerned,
muted purples, browns and grays were blended into the crease to create a soft look.

GRUNGE STYLE

The make up listed above is paired perfectly with the grunge style of the 1990's.
Plaid shirts, ripped leggings, biker boots styled with natural hair
is effortless and perfect when trying to complete your look.

Colors of the Rainbow

Spring is in full force now-a-days with blooming flowers, green parks, and warmer weather!
However, April showers bring May flowers.
Rainy days may make some sad but remember those rainy days are just temporary!
When the sun is in hiding, colorful make up can brighten any day!
It could be rosy cheeks, pastel or jewel toned eyes, and just bitten lips,
but whatever it may be, they are perfect for those days of rain and overcast skies.

Pastels are HUGE this season, so be on the look out!
Nicole shows us how its done with this powder blue hue.

Scarlet makes pastel shades look anything but innocent!

With toffee colored eyes,
a lavender inspired shadow makes the windows to her soul extra flirty!

Lilac isn't only the color of a baby's nursery but a fresh way to spruce up green eyes.

Navy isn't just for the military!
Lea's brown eyes show sophistication with this denim inspired color.

Flushed cheeks aren't for those who just finished a serious work out,
it's a simple way to brighten up the face with minimal effort.

Emma keeps thing peachy keen with a color that is just that!
With the placement focused on the apples of her cheeks,
she radiates a youthful glow.

This model shows how blush cannot only awaken the face but contour the face as well.
With placing blush on the cheek bones, it creates an illusion of a slimmer,
more defined bone structure.

Blush looks great on everyone, regardless of skin tone!
The darker the complexion, the more room you have to play with different colors.
We suggest that this model may have used cream blush which is a great way to mimic a sexy, dewy glow.

Kiera looks mysterious with a combo of flushed cheeks, just bitten lips, and smoldering eyes.
Some may think this triple threat may be too much,
ut she rocks it in the most romantic way.

Rosie models not only for Victoria's Secret but the perfect lip for the spring season.
Just like her name,
a rosy color looks beautiful especially paired with those blue eyes of hers!

With skin like porcelain, a rosy hue looks soft and romantic.

Amanda's lips look soft and supple with a hint of color and it looks stunning.
A stain can help those who lack the natural rose hue and unlike lipstick, it won't need to be touched up after meals and unlike gloss, it's never sticky or gooey.

We hope that this little color guide can benefit you and help you venture out in the world of colors for this spring season.
The sky is the limit!
